Watercraft & Yachts

Many Wisconsin residents own some type of watercraft whether it’s a canoe, fishing boat, or a ski boat. The various types of watercraft are covered under three types of policies:

  1. Homeowners
  2. Boatowners (under 26 feet long)
  3. Yacht (exceeds 26 feet)

Watercraft covered under the Homeowners Policy

Your homeowners policy only provides adequate coverage for the smallest and simplest boats and motors. There is a limit of $1,000 on trailers, furnishings, equipment and outboard motors. Your boat or personal watercraft may be too big or expensive to be covered through your homeowners, so you will need to purchase a boatowners policy to protect it.

Boat and yacht policies can provide coverage for:

  • Outboard, inboard, and inboard/outboard boats
  • Personal watercraft and jet skis
  • Sailboats
  • Physical damage caused by a collision with a submerged object
  • Liability for bodily injury or damage to the property of others
  • Damage to personal property on the boat (clothing, stereo system, cameras, etc.)
  • Gas delivery, towing and assistance if your boat is stranded
