When is the last time you replaced the siding on your house? Most people would say, “it’s been years“. Now, let’s say a hail storm comes through your neighborhood and damages your siding. When you get it replaced, you’re told the manufacturer discontinued the style, size or color of your siding. This means you have two options:
- Live with mismatched siding, which diminishes the curb value of your home
- Pay the extra expense out of pocket to replace the undamaged siding.
A standard homeowners insurance policy only covers the damaged areas of your roofing or siding. The insurance company is not responsible for replacing any undamaged areas.
However, some insurance companies offer an endorsement called Matching of Undamaged Siding or Roofing Endorsement, which covers the replacement of both the damaged and undamaged portions (up to a specified limit) of the siding or roofing. This endorsement generally only applies to vinyl or aluminum siding and to composition roofing shingles.
It’s important to note that this endorsement will provide coverage when loss is sustained to a portion of the siding and/or roofing due to a covered peril. This does not include weathering, wear and tear, etc.
Cost of the Matching of Undamaged Siding/Roofing Endorsement
This endorsement to your homeowners policy is relatively inexpensive. The following numbers are simply estimates and vary based on insurance carrier.
